Vijay & Vishal movies Clash in Andhra on March 5

In Kollywood the young heroes are very good friends so much so they amicably decide on the release dates of their films, even if it requires change of dates. But their dictates are hijacked by the producers when their films are set for release in Andhra.
Vishal and Vijay have huge following in Andhra Pradesh through their dubbed Tamil films. All their Tamil films are invariably dubbed in Telugu unless the Tamil film happens to be a remake of a Telugu film.
Come this March, Vijay and Vishal will take the box office stage on the same day. Vishal's 'Theeratha Vilaiyattu Pillai' and Vijay's 'Vettaikaaran' will be pitted against each other on March 5. 'Theeratha Vilaiyattu Pillai' as 'Khilladi' and 'Vettaikaaran' as 'Puli Vetta' are releasing on the same day in Andhra Pradesh.
What looks impossible in Kollywood is happening just like that in Tollywood.

Jaya-Vijay starrer set to flop DMK poll show

Clinching an alliance with actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth’s DMDK is the best thing that could have happened to the AIADMK in the current political scenario. Now, AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa has made sure that the DMK faces a Herculean task in its bid to retain power in Tamil Nadu.

The alliance, which was fructified after two months of uncertainty, is the second unusual alliance for Jayalalithaa. The first time was in 1998 when, after the 1996 corruption charges and going into political hibernation, she had clinched a deal with the BJP. That alliance went on to win the Lok Sabha election and performed very well in Tamil Nadu.

This time too, following the 2G scam and the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu on the defensive, the AIADMK now has a formidable side and a united Opposition — AIADMK, DMDK, MDMK, CPI, CPI(M) and a host of minor parties, including the Dalit party Puthiya Tamizhagam.

Vijayakanth has, in the five years of DMDK’s existence, always claimed that the party’s alliance is “only with God and people”. But he has now sought an alliance on the ground that DMK Government had to be ousted. “We want to oust the DMK regime in Tamil Nadu. Therefore, we are with the AIADMK,” is what the DMDK presidium chairman and former AIADMK Minister Panruti S Ramachandran told the media after meeting the AIADMK election panel on Thursday. He also said that this was the aspiration of Vijayakanth, who wanted the entire Opposition to unite. A formal announcement is expected on Sunday by Jayalalithaa.

VIJAY PHOTOS IN NAGAPATINAM MEETING

Vijay's Said "Telegram to CM & PM"

It was a time-tested strategy of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi to send telegrams to New Delhi to press the Union government on various issues.
On Tuesday, Vijay, addressing a protest in Nagapattinam to condemn the killings of Tamil fishermen, urged his fans to send telegrams to Karunanidhi and also to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, over the issue.
Accusing the Centre and State governments of being mute spectators to indiscriminate attacks on fishermen, the ‘Ilaya Thalapathi’ said Tamils should come together whenever there is a problem to fellow Tamils.
Meanwhile, frenzied fans scrambled on to the stage and when the crowd got unmanageable, police used mild force to keep them away. Even Vijay got irked at one point of time and walked out of the stage. Later, office-bearers of his Makkal Iyakkam pacified the actor and brought him back to the stage.

Birthday celebrations in velayutham shooting spot

Saranya Mohan who plays an important role in Vijay's Velayudham celebrated her birthday recently on the sets of the movie. One of the heroines of the film, Hansika Motwani is said to have arranged a cake for her and the entire team joined to wish her. Hansika said that she is delighted having celebrated Saranya's birthday on the sets and that Saranya is a great actress and a very sweet girl. Velayudham, directed by 'Jeyam' Raja, stars Hansika Motwani and Genelia opposite to Vijay also has Saranya Mohan playing the role of Vijay's sister. Looks like the team is bonding really well with the celebrations and Hansika going on to say that one the best scenes in the film would be the one where she shares the screen with Saranya Mohan. We wish the actress a very Happy Birthday and lots of success.

Vijay’s career is going great Position

The saying ‘tough times don’t last for ever’ seems to come true as regards Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay’s profession. After facing many hiccoughs and speed bumps in his career in the recent times, Vijay is all set to raise like a phoenix with impressive projects in his kitty. If sources in the industry are to be believed, Vijay will be doing the role of Vandhiya Thevan in the historical project Ponniyin Selvan immortalized by Kalki Krishnamurthy to be directed by director Mani Ratnam. More details on the rest of the cast is awaited.
Beside this, Vijay will also be donning the role of Aamir Khan in Nanban, the Tamil remake of Three Idiots being directed by Shankar. Vijay First Step in Politics in Nagapatinam

Despite constantly denying any immediate plans to enter politics, Vijay seems to be taking baby steps eyeing a not-so-distant future in politics. Aides close to the actor aver that he will participate in the demonstration in Nagapattinam to be held on February 22, condemning the killing of Tamil fishermen by Srilankan Navy. The demonstration is expected to attract several of his fans and well-wishers.
In his film career front, Kaavalan has had a decent opening and reviews. He also has two promising projects; Velayudham directed by Jayam Raja and Shankar’s remake of Three Idiots, Nanban.

Genelia’s using her own voice in Velayutham

Vijay-starrer Velayudham will be Genelia’s first film in which she will dub using her own voice. This north Indian actress, who has starred in many Tamil films earlier, has never lent her voice till now. However, Genelia feels that she has gained enough experience and is confident that her voice and accent will be accepted by the Tamil audience now.
Velayudham also has Hansika Motwani, Saranya Mohan, Pasupathy and MS Bhaskar in important roles. The film is directed by Jayam Raja and Vijay Anthony is scoring the music. It is produced by Aascar Films V Ravichandran.

Velayutham - The Fast Mass Entertainer

Ilayathalapathy Vijay is in Pollachi shooting a song with heroine Hansika for M.Raja directed mass entertainer Velayudham, produced by Aascar Ravichandran.
The song is said to be a very peppy mass number and it is shot with dozens of dancers in the background and the lead team celebrating their happiness.
Velayudham songs are being tuned by music director Vijay Antony. Velayudham is said to be a fast paced mass entertainer with all essential Vijay elements. The shooting for the movie is almost over with the completion of current Pollachi schedule.
On completing Velayudham current schedule vijay will move over to Shankar’s Nanban by the end of February for a 20 days shoot in Ooty and Coimbatore. By March end Vijay plans to go abroad for shooting two songs for Velayudham in an exotic foreign location.

"Nanban" Shooting in Kovai

Apart from Ooty, Shankar shot some important scenes of his forthcoming venture ‘Nanban’ in Coimbatore too. Here we have details about what happened on the sets of the Tamil remake of ‘Three Idiots’.  In the textile city, the ‘mega director’ canned a wedding scene, in which heroine Ileana had to be kidnapped by two protagonists- Jiiva and Srikanth. Sathyaraj, who plays the leading lady’s father, was also present.  The entire shooting spot was brought under a security blanket and everyone who went in was subjected to thorough scanner. “This is to prevent any possible leakage of scenes on the internet,” unit members say.  With Vijay, who plays the role played by Aamir Khan, likely to join the unit in the last week of February, the cast and crew is back in Chennai after successfully completing the first schedule.

Vijay planning All over Tamilnadu Tour

Even as the countdown has started for Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, all eyes are on Vijay, who recently came down heavily on the ruling party in his interview to a Tamil magazine.
Buzz is that the Ilaya Thalapathi would start a whirlwind tour and meet his fans all over the State, to know their mood and aspirations. “He will make a decision on the completion of the tour,” sources close to him say.
It is to be noted that Vijay’s father and popular director S A Chandrasekar met twice AIADMK general secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. Rumour mills claim he might contest the Assembly polls on AIADMK ticket.
Meanwhile, there are also reports that the Vijay would visit the coastal town of Nagapattinam on February 22 to lead a protest demonstration to condemn the mid-sea killings of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy.

A HONEST LETTER TO VIJAY FROM A DIE HARD FAN

Hi Vijay
I am not going to beat about the bush. Let me come straight to the point.
I like all your movies irrespective of the stories and the roles you are in. The mere screen presence of you satisfies me a lot. But there were the rough patches in your career which you handled well. The movies like Tirupaachi, Sivakasi, Pokkiri which are surely the mega hits in box office, were of course required for the evolution of a mass hero. I understand that you want to get into every section of the people within the state which is really good. Though Sura had some mixed responses, the fishermen community felt proud that you had acted in that role.
The Comeback
Kavalan – Was really a mind blowing performance. Families, Lovers, Friends, and Kids – all love the movie. Even your critics have started praising you. The base is set right now. I do not want you to lose this grip you are currently having from all section of people. I see that you are signed up for Shankar movie and also there are the rumors on Mani Ratnam movie. Please get involved in both these projects. There can be really no one who can beat you if you give 2 more hits. There will also be the right base set for your political ventures. Velayudham must be shaping good I guess.
All the very best. Remember one thing always,
STRIKE WHILE THE IRON IS HOT

with warm regards

M Hari Prasath

Shankar talks about ‘Nanban’

Known for taking time to complete films, Shankar is on a fast track as far as ‘Nanban’ is concerned. The director has completed the first schedule of this Tamil remake of Bollywood blockbuster ‘3 Idiots’.
“Just finished the first schedule of ‘Nanban’ in Ooty. It was really a good start and I am able to feel things started working. I enjoyed,” the creator of ‘Endhiran’ has written on his blog.
Expressing happiness further, he said: “It was full of fun and laughter, there was a lot of energy flowing as it was a young team… I will keep you posted.” Shankar has also released a set of photographs clicked on the sets of ‘Nanban’.
The photographs had Shankar working with Jeeva and S J Suryah among others. Starring Vijay, Srikanth and Jeeva in lead roles, ‘Nanban’ is produced by Gemini Film Circuit. Ileana plays the heroine, enacted by Kareena Kapoor in the original version.

VIJAY MASS IN TAMILNADU

What the success of Kavalan really means for media, fans, Vijay, politics and future of Tamil film industry.
All Vijay fans and even non-Vijay fans with a sense of fair play must be relishing Vijay’s stupendous success at the box office recently with Kavalan. Despite what all the media – print, electronic or net -- might say, the real big winner at the box office during this Pongal is undoubtedly Kavalan. The movie is a welcome respite for Vijay after a series of very disappointing outings that started with the release of Azhagiya Tamil Magan in 2007 to Sura in 2010. By the time Sura was released, Vijay was being written off and there was a series of Vijay bashing articles in the media. The only ones who kept faith with Vijay were his die-hard fans who wrote in to express their support to sites like Behindwoods. Their faith in their Ilaya Thalapathi has paid off with the success of Kavalan.
As an arm chair observer from Malaysia, I would like to point out what the success of Kavalan means for the Tamil film industry and for Vijay in particular. First of all, I wonder if anyone has realized that what happened to Vijay – the subtle and not so subtle anti-Vijay campaign against him in the media, the problems he had with releasing Kavalan (it was first supposed to be released in December, coming up against Manmadhan Ambu [which was produced by the CM’s grandson] when that plan was scuttled) and the limited release the film had in Tamil Nadu – 300 theatres and that too not in the best theaters in Tamil Nadu. And no simultaneous release in Malaysia or Singapore, very important markets for Tamil films and where Vijay is the next biggest box office draw after Rajini – all this was something unprecedented in Tamil film history.
The nearest incident similar to what happened to Vijay that I can think of happened in the early 1970s to the legendary MGR when obstacles were thrown in his path prior to the release of his box office record breaking Ulagam Suttrum Vaaliban (USV) in 1974. Ironically, the CM of TN then too was Karunanidhi. MGR had run afoul of the ruling party when he broke away and started showing political inclinations of his own. It was rumored that the ruling party tried many tricks to delay the release of the film. Of course the media scene then was not as sophisticated as it is now and could only do limited damage against MGR. Furthermore MGR was already a legend and a box office icon. Whatever opposition that the concerned parties threw against MGR was akin to swimming in a tsunami (to borrow a phrase from Aadukalam). It was a lost cause for the swimmers. And since MGR’s fanatical fan base was the largest and the most well organized in TN, there might have been riots if the release of the movie was stopped. Wisely, cooler heads prevailed and the movie was eventually released. It went on to become a mega blockbuster whose BO record would only be broken by Sivaji The Boss (factoring in the inflation rate) more than 30 years later.
Fast forward to 2011 and the trials and tribulations faced by Vijay and his subsequent triumph at the BO eerily remind one of the drama that preceded the release of MGR’s USV. That a star of the stature and following of Vijay should face such problems releasing his movie due to the supposedly lack of theaters is unbelievable, especially so when Ilaignan, a movie scripted by Kalaigner and starring lyrist turned actor Pa Vijay whose box office ranking must be lower than Karan, was able to command better theatres than Vijay!
Then there were the theatre owners who were demanding that Vijay compensate them for the losses they suffered from releasing his previous movies which were flops. Movies like any other businesses involve risks. Sometimes you have profits; sometimes you face losses. Except it seems in Tamil Nadu where theatre owners expect to be compensated when a movie of a huge star flops. One wonders if the same theatre owners also share the profits with these stars and the producers when the movie becomes a super hit.
Coming back to Kavalan, here is how I see how Kavalan has reset the rules of the release of a Tamil movie in TN with regards to:
Media
The media especially TV channels (two channels in particular) have learnt that you cannot keep a good man down especially if it is someone like Vijay who is the most recognizable face in Tamil Nadu (after Rajini) and has the largest fan base among the youths (not counting Rajini). These facts are according to the polls taken by independent groups in TN. Here in Malaysia we noticed that Sun Music had started reducing or completely stopped showing Vijay songs during some of its programmes like the prime time Hello Hello beginning from December 2010. Plus there were no promos of Vijay’s movie on Sun TV. I am sure it’s not because the producers of the movie did not want to pay for the promo spots.
As powerful as the internet is, in places like Tamil Nadu, the TV has a much larger reach. And Sun TV has the largest reach of them all. So when something is not promoted on that TV channel, it is akin to not reaching the largest segment of the public. Yet with this huge disadvantage set against the movie, Kavalan did open at number 3 at the box office despite being released a day after Pongal.
This success shows that Vijay’s popularity is bigger than whatever influence the media might have on the people’s perception of the movie. Vijay’s cause was helped further by the fact that the Kavalan is an enjoyable movie and that there were other channels out there willing to help him promote the movie.
There was a you tube video that showed angry fans of Vijay tearing down a movie poster in a theatre and shouting slogans against a TV channel and its owner. The movie in question was produced by that TV channel. Scenes like this in other smaller towns must have made the TV station realize that it would do no good for its image or its business if it attempted to boycott Vijay’s songs on its music channel. Now Vijay is back with a vengeance in both its music and main channel.
Lesson for media: Play fair! It does no good for its reputation if it purposely side lines someone just because he or she has a different political view or is not a flavor of the month. And if the actor in question is tremendously popular and has a huge following among the masses, thread with caution.  That does not mean an iconic figure cannot be criticized; be fair in your criticism and allow that person a chance to air his view. And do not indulge in shenanigans to prevent the star’s movie from being released because you want your movie to succeed. The audience will decide. A bad movie, no matter if it is being headlined by a superstar, will fail. Give the TN movie audience that much credit.
Fans
The heroes behind the success of Kavalan (besides Vijay, the director etc) are the fans of Vijay.

PROUDLY SAY THALATHALAPATHY

vijay-kavalan-07-02-11It seems that the two mass groups of the fans started to mix up without collision. After the success of Vijay`s KAVALAN, things started to change. Vijay being praised for his performance in KAVALAN is not something new as the actor has already proved his dynamic acting towards such roles long before a decade. But the positive feedback and appreciation for the actor from a particular group is something unique and happens for the first time.
Yes, two big group of Kollywood film industry Ilayathalapathy Vijay Fans and Thala Ajith Fans have finally started to alter their mind of vengeance. The recent meeting of the two masses would have made way for their respective fans to collaborate mutually. The other reason, fans (or people) realize certain super powers of the state humiliating an actor for his stage speech and creating problems for the other during his film release. Taking such statements into their mind Vijay fans and Ajith fans have started giving their mutual positive feedback for the actors.
Kavalan already having its fast rollercoaster journey seated with family member, Vijay fans and non Vijay fans, its now time for Ajith`s Mankatha. Mankatha getting ready to hit the screens later this year has built great expectations among Ajith fans. But this time it is not only Ajith fans waiting for Mankatha, but also a major part of Vijay fans waiting with their hands wide open to receive Ajith`s Mankatha and to give their positive feelings. Hope everything goes well for the heroes in the future.
And finally, Tamil cinema seems to move on the right track. If this condition prevails there is even a chance for the two masses to share the screen in future. Who knows, a time might come where we can find some big faces like Rajinikanth, Kamal Hassan,Vijay, Ajith, Vikram Sharing the screen making Tamil people`s dream come true.
WE need to be congratulated for spreading out its positive wave towards Tamil cinema

Nanban Stills - my design

Eagerly waiting for this movie Nanban

Vijay,Vikram,Vishal in Mani Ratnam's film

Veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam, sources say, has decided to cast Vijay, Vishal and Vikram in his next film. The director is getting the script ready for his next film and is penning it down with these three stars in mind.
Mani Ratnam is one of the few directors who cast multi-heroes in his films and tasted success in films like Agni Natchathiram, which had Karthik and Prabhu; Iruvar, which saw the coming together of two legends Mohanlal and Prakash Raj and Thalapathy which had two superstars Rajinikanth and Mammootty.
This time the ace director will be instrumental in bringing the three current biggies of Kollywood together – Vishal, Vikram and Vijay.

Actor Vijay criticizes DMK openly

Chennai Feb 03 ( truthdive): Actor Vijay has openly criticized the ruling party in Tamil Nadu. His plain speak in an interview to Anantha Vikadan, a popular Tamil magazine may add fuel to the burning political scenario on the eve of ensuing Assembly elections.
It may not be known whether the out of the screen activities of Vijay such as forming a social movement, contact with Rahul Gandhi are the outcome of his reaction to the business rivalry with the DMK’s first family involved in film production and distribution or for his long term goal of entering politics to become Chief Minister of Tamil nadu.
There are complaints in Kollywood that the influence of ruling party in screening of films in theaters, by giving priority to the DMK family production only, has gone beyond limits and has caused losses to others.
Vijay has accused that the release of his films during the festival time was prevented or delayed only to facilitate the successful running of the films produced and distributed by DMK men to ease out competition from his films. He has asked how the same forces telecast Vijay films during festival time to earn money. He has wryly commented ” they need my face to erase my face” He has added angrily ” Festivals come for the celebration for all the people. If they rule that “Only we will fire crackers( during Deepavali) and only we will taste sugarcane ( during Pongal) is this a good country?”

Vijay and cousin Vikranth’s fight

Vijay’s cousin Vikranth has expressed a desire to play baddie in one of his films and an opportunity to exchange blows with him. The starlet says that he knows that Vijay enjoys wide popularity among the masses and that is the reason he has a strong desire to fight with him on screen.
There are chances that his wish may come true soon. With Vikranth playing a role in Sattapadi Kuttram, film directed by Vijay’s dad director SA Chandrasekar and Vijay agreeing to do a guest role in that film, hopefully he should get an opportunity to fight his popular cousin.

Vijay in ‘Sattappadi Kuttram’?

It’s an usual expectation that Vijay would make a special appearance when his father S A Chandrasekar directs a film. Now that the veteran filmmaker is busy with ‘Sattappadi Kuttram’, buzz is that the ‘Ilaya Thalapathi’ would play a guest role.
However, Chandrasekar evades a direct reply to this question. “I can’t say anything at this point of time. I can comment on this only after completing the movie,” says the director.
SAC, known for handling revolutionary themes, is remaking his yesteryear blockbuster ‘Sattam Oru Iruttarai’ as ‘Sattappadi Kuttram’. Sathyaraj, Seeman, Vikranth and Bhanu among others play lead roles.
“The film will come with a message to the society. Sathyaraj is giving his best while Seeman will be featured in the role of an advocate, who fights hard to ensure that wrongdoers get punishment as per law,” the director adds.

Kaavalan is best than Bodyguard - Director Siddique

Riding high on the success of Kavalan, director Siddique is one happy man. Not only did the film, which is a remake of the Malayalam original Bodyguard, open fantastically to packed audiences, but is now also being made in Hindi with Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor.

Casting it right
One of the biggest strengths of the movie is obviously its lead cast — Vijay and Asin. "I had narrated the story of Bodyguard to Vijay three years ago, even before I had made the film in Malayalam with Dileep. He loved the script, but for some reason, the film didn't take off then. With Asin, again, I wanted to cast her in the Malayalam version, but that did not work and I signed on Nayantara. I think Asin and Vijay were a great combination in Pokkiri, and it was wonderful to see them coming together again," Siddique says.

A Stupendous Response
Siddique is obviously pleased with the response to Kavalan. "It has been stupendous," he gushes, "The film was entirely promoted on word of mouth publicity. There was not even a single ad or trailer before the film released. The story has spoken for itself and people who have seen both versions have told me that they liked Kavalan better. It is a very simple subject, but where it packs a punch is in the climax." But, the best praise of all, he maintains, came straight from the horse's mouth – Vijay's mother. "She thanked me profusely and said that she was very grateful that Vijay had done such a film." He adds, "I think the audiences in Tamil Nadu identify good cinema and that's one of the main reasons that the movie has done so well."
