Vijay’s tough police role in Thuppaki

Ilayathalapathy Vijay offers evasive replies whenever you raise him regarding his role within the forthcoming high action entertainer Thuppakki directed by A.R. Murugadoss — if truth be told, the couple are fastidiously keeping all details regarding the film beneath wraps.
But our sources in Mumbai, where the primary schedule of shooting transpire for forty days, ensure that the Velayudham star is essaying an encounter specialist within the movie.
“Vijay is acting as a high profile cop from Mumbai and most a part of the film takes place within the business capital,” says the unit supply. Reportedly, a hilarious scene was shot recently by Murugadoss — a typical pen paarkkum padalam (the ancient method of ‘seeing’ a woman by the boy’s family for fixing an alliance) scene during which Vijay, straight from work and clad in khaki, involves see his bride-to-be played by Kajal Agarwal and she or he serves him sweets and occasional. whereas Santhosh Sivan cranks the camera, Harris Jayaraj has been roped in for the music.
Sources inform that because of the continuing strike within the film trade, Vijay is hitting the gym everyday and running those further miles — to induce the perfectly-toned body of a troublesome cop.

Jai Not in Thuppaakki?

Ace director AR Murugadoss has confirmed that Jai is not acting in his upcoming flick Thupakki. Earlier there were reports that Jai will be acting in Thupakki as the younger brother of actor Vijay in the film. Murugadsoss has updated that there is no brother character in the film and Jai is not part of it.
It is expected that the film will showcase an extra stylish Vijay donning the role of an encounter specialist.  The film has raised expectations as it has Vijay signing a party song to the tunes of Harris Jayaraj, penned by Karki.

Vijay sings Party Song for 'Thuppaaki'

In his initial days as actor, Vijay used to croon a song or two in his movies. Born to a vocalist mother, singing came naturally for the actor and the numbers performed by him turned out to be hits. ('Dodabeta roadu mela...' and 'Adada Alamelu...' are examples)
And now, the Ilayathalapathy is back in his familiar territory. He has crooned for a number in his forthcoming film 'Thupaki', in the music of Harris Jayaraj. The recording took place at a studio in Mumbai recently.

Nanban Near to Endhiran Collection!!!

The strong run that Nanban is having in certain circuits even a month after its release has got the distributors raving about the wonders it has performed at the box office. Nanban has shown nothing less than phenomenal performance in the Madurai and Coimbatore belts. The distributors for these areas, Ramesh and Sivakumar, respectively have stated that almost all centres are witnessing repeat audiences and that is sustaining the collections in a big way. The gross collection of Nanban from 4 circuits of Coimbatore is around Rs. 5.5 crores. This is next only to Superstar’s Endhiran that had done a business of Rs. 8.0 crores during its initial month in the same 4 circuits. Yes, a difference of 2.5 crores in a months run in a district between two movies is quite huge. But, one must also take into account the fact that the tickets for Endhiran during the initial week had sold out for Rs. 500 and above while Nanban tickets were in the normal range of Rs 70-100 in both Madurai and Coimbatore. What does this mean? Well, it’s a complex issue of various factors. That a star can command houseful audiences even with tickets selling for Rs.500 is an indication of the crowd pulling power that he has. At the same time, if Nanban has gone on to make nearly 70% of Endhiran’s collection within the same running period, it means that it commanded a lot of repeat audiences, which the distributors say is true. Of course, we should also understand that the lower ticket rates is also a factor in attracting repeat audiences; which is something that Endhiran could not have done with ticket rates hitting the ceiling.

All said and done, the final numbers state one fact; in many circuits the business that Nanban has generated is second only to Endhiran; and it is definitely the highest ever numbers generated by a Vijay starrer; not to forget Jiiva. And, in the midst of Endhiran, Nanban, Rajni and Vijay, we should not forget the one man common to all this- shankar. He has truly emerged as the biggest revenue generating director of the industry.
